Brazil PBE Energy Efficiency Label

Certification Introduction:

The Brazilian Labeling Program (Program Brasileiro de Etiquetagem, PBE) originated from an agreement signed in 1984 by the Brazilian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Brazilian Association of Electronics and Electricity Industries (ABINEE) under the intervention of the Ministry of Mines and Energy. According to the National Energy Conservation and Rational Use of Energy Law promulgated in October 2001 and Law No. 4059 promulgated in December of the same year, the program became a mandatory energy efficiency labeling program. The purpose of the program is to provide consumers with product energy efficiency information, enabling them to assess and optimize the energy consumption of household equipment, select energy-efficient products, and make better use of equipment, thereby saving on energy bills. Currently, the PBE program requires products such as refrigerators, freezers, ceiling fans, air-conditioning washing machines, gas stoves, gas water heaters, electric showers, incandescent and fluorescent lamps, ballasts, centrifugal pumps, electric motors and solar panels to be affixed with PBE mandatory Label.

Similar to the EU's energy label, the Brazilian PBE energy efficiency label includes the manufacturer's name, trademark, product model, electricity or water consumption, and product characteristics, etc. In addition, the label has the signatures of INMETRO and PROCEL (pictured).
