Turkey – New Textile Labeling and Fiber Composition of Textile Products regulation Published

On April 25, 2015, Turkey’s Ministry of Customs and Trade updated the Textile Labeling and Fiber Composition of Textile Products regulation.

According to Regulation No. 29337, the new requirements became effective on 25 April 2015,except for “textile products comprising non‐textile parts of animal origin”, which will become effective on 1 January 2016.The following items are considered to fall within the scope as textile products in the Regulation:

1) Products containing at least 80% by weight of textile fibres;

2) Furniture, umbrellas and awnings consisting of at least 80% by weight of textile components;

3) The textile components of the upper layer of multi‐layer floor coverings, bed covers and covers of camping products that consists of at least 80% by weight of textile components;

4) Composition shall be specified if textiles are combined with other products or form part of a combination.

All textile products should be labeled in Turkish with required information in accordance with the Regulations by means of a label attached to the product in form of sewing, embroidery, printing,embossing or by any other means of technology to specify the required information directly on the textile products. The permanently attached label must be legible, visible and easily accessible to the consumer.

General rules on labeling and marking of textile products:

Pure textile products

Only textile products exclusively composed of the same fibre may be labeled or marked as “100%”, "pure” or “all”.
