On November 21, 2024, La Camara de Diputados, approved the reform through which seven autonomous organizations, including the IFT, will disappear.

On the other hand, President Claudia Sheinbaum has declared that the powers of the telecommunications regulator will be transferred to a decentralized body that will be located in the Ministry of Economy (SE).

This decision is taken with the aim of streamlining public service activities and using resources and public spending in a more efficient manner.

For his part, the commissioner of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), Arturo Robles Rovalo, said that“the functions of the IFT will be under a single power,” but while that happens“the Institute will continue working, fulfilling its functions and looking out for the right of each worker to be incorporated into the functions of the new organizations.”

There is still no clear date for when the new regulatory body will assume the functions of the IFT.
