Publisher:Admin  Source:  Date:2024/11/12

On October 15, Viettel officially announced the launch of its 5G network, marking the 20th anniversary of its mobile service, Viettel Mobile.

With this launch, Viettel becomes the first company to provide official 5G services in Vietnam. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of National Defense Pham Hoai Nam and Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long.

The 5G network was officially launched just six months after Viettel received its frequency license for 2,600 MHz. At the time of its launch, the Viettel 5G network boasts over 6,500 transmission stations, covering 100% of the capitals of all 63 provinces and cities, as well as industrial zones, tourist areas, seaports, airports, hospitals, and universities.

Viettel's 5G network offers speeds ranging from 700 Mbps to 1 Gbps, which is ten times faster than 4G, with latency nearly at zero. The 5G network is being deployed on both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) architectures.

Viettel successfully implemented its 5G NSA network in 2019. However, 5G SA represents the true and fully independent 5G network, unlike the existing 4G technology.

Compared to the 5G NSA, the 5G SA network not only provides high-speed data transmission services but also meets ultra-low latency requirements, approximately 1 ms, which is significantly better than 5G NSA and 20 times faster than traditional 4G. This allows for immediate response services such as autonomous vehicles, remote surgery, remote control in smart factories, and virtual reality classrooms.

In his remarks at the event, Deputy Minister of National Defense Pham Hoai Nam praised Viettel's achievements over the past 20 years. Viettel currently produces 50 types of modern weapons for the nation and has positioned Vietnam among the top five countries producing 5G equipment.

The Ministry of National Defense has requested Viettel to align telecommunications development with national defense industry practices to foster a digital society and enhance competitiveness regionally and globally.

At the event, Tao Duc Thang, Chairman of Viettel, noted that 20 years ago, Viettel launched its mobile network, Viettel Mobile. This journey has been an emotional one for many generations of Viettel leaders.

Mobile communications have played a decisive role in making Viettel the leading telecommunications and IT company in Vietnam, creating essential human and material resources that establish its organizational stature, scale, and market position, enabling Viettel to continuously expand its business areas both domestically and internationally.

“Over 6,000 5G transmission stations have been launched just six months after receiving the license, reflecting Viettel's great effort and determination to keep Vietnam among the leading countries in the world for 5G commercialization. 5G facilitates the development of various economic sectors, transforming industries such as manufacturing, education, healthcare, and logistics, thereby enhancing Viettel's growth space and increasing Vietnam's competitiveness on the international stage,” said Thang.

Currently, Viettel has invested in mobile businesses in ten countries across three continents - Asia, Africa, and America - of which seven markets rank first. Viettel has also pioneered coverage in the most remote areas of the Amazon (Peru) and eliminated unconnected regions for nearly 6,000 villages and residential areas in international markets, enabling millions of local residents to access telecommunications and information technology services./.
