US EPA updates volunteer consumer standards for formaldehyde emission in composite wood products

on October 25,2017,the US EPA published the formaldehyde emission standards for composite wood products final rule. The final rule is effective on December 11,2017 .The major changes in this final rule ,include the following two parts: 

 

1. The final rule extend compliance date as below:

※ Formaldehyde Emission     Dec. 12, 2018

※ Recordkeeping                   Dec. 12, 2018

※ Labeling                             Dec. 12, 2018

※ Import Certificate               March 22, 2019

※ Laminated Product            March 22, 2024

  

2.The highlights of this Final Rule are as followings:

※ The terms “Hardboard”, “Hardwood plywood”, “Medium density fiberboard”, “Particleboard” and “Quality control limit” shall be revised in section 700.3 (Definitions) by updating the standards.

※ In the terms "EPA TSCA Title VI Product Accreditation Body or EPA TSCA Title VI Product AB" and "TPC laboratory", “1998(E)” shall be replaced by “2012(E)” in section 700.3 (Definitions).

※ The following standards mention in 40 CFR 770 shall be updated due to updated version of standards or withdrawal of the previous standards:
