The Revised EMC Standard for Household Appliances Entry into Force on October 28th
Publisher:Admin  Source:  Date:2017/10/9

The European Union has recently launched an electromagnetic compatibility EMC standard for household appliances, power tools and similar appliances EN 55014-1: 2017. This standard covers products such as household appliances, power tools, regulators for the use of semiconductor devices, motor-driven electrotherapy equipment, electric toys, vending machines and film or slide projectors, etc., and covers the battery, AC, DC power supply Of the above products.

EN 55014-1: 2017 will take effect on October 28, 2017, and the current version of EN 55014-1: 2006 + A1: 2009 + A2: 2011 will expire on April 28, 2020.

The standard was fully reviewed resulting in:

The first is to rearrange of several clauses of the original standard to correspond to the new standard editing layout, and added some definitions.

The second is to add or change the part of the test conditions and methods

  • ※ Improvements to operating conditions when testing induction cooking appliances.

  • ※ Incorporation of the limits for these induction cooking appliances in the body of the standard.

  • ※ The addition of general and specific test setups (e.g. for vacuum cleaners and robotic cleaners) for radiated emission.

  • ※ New provision for the current probe test method for conducted disturbance measurements on ports other than the AC mains port, as an alternative to the voltage probe method.

The third is to clarify the use of certain test methods and test components.

  • ※ Clarification on click analysis (e.g.measurements under the presence of continuous disturbances).

  • ※ Clarification on the use of the artificial hand.

  • ※ Testing being introduced on wired network ports of household equipment (equivalent to CISPR 32 requirements).

  • ※ Clarification on the scope regarding emissions from radio transmitters (copied verbatim from CISPR 32).

  • ※ Clarification on the measurement of equipment with built-in luminaries.

  • ※ All specific operating conditions were moved to Annex A.

In order to effectively respond to the new EMC standard of EU, remind relevant enterprises:

First of all, we must understand the main content of the new EU EMC standard -EN 55014-1: 2017 version and update the situation in time, timely communication with foreign clients, from product design, raw material procurement, assembly production, improve product quality, strengthen the risk awareness.

The second is to shift the focus from the safety, performance, appearance and other aspects to the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) indicators, further enhance their own technical level and core competitiveness, make full use of government departments of public resources, to enhance the initiative to deal with technical barriers to trade barriers. Do a good job in EMC evaluation according to the standards of the importing country.

The third is to check the conformity of products, master the product EMC testing, effective control of product risk.
