Overview of Textile and Clothing Recall Notifications in Sep. 2017

European Union, USA, Canada and Australia recall 27 batches of textile and clothing products in September 2017. There are 12 batches from China. 

 

Notifications of products mainly involve the drawstrings of the clothes, which can become trapped during various activities of a child and lead to injuries or strangulation, clothes containing AZO colorants, leather trousers containing excess Cr (VI), scarves and kid’s pajamas posing a risk of burn injuries, and the small part of the clothes which may cause choking . Suggestion

Recall cases of AZO colorants, excessive contents of chromium VI, and the choking hazard of small part and the cords are appeared frequently. Arylamine and are restricted in REACH Appendix XVII, the limit of arylamine in leather and textiles is 30 ppm and the limit value of cadmium is 0.01 wt%. A pajama product was recalled by America and two kinds of feather boas were recalled by Canada, due to their bad flame retardant property. For this, manufacturer should take measures in advance at every stage to meet the requirement of regulation and customers, such as raw material without hazardous substance. In order to ensure all products transported to the other countries are safe, the products should be submitted to the authorized and professional third part laboratories to verify global safety requirements before transported to other countries.
