Publisher:Admin  Source:  Date:2017/8/31

On August 24, 2017, the ASTM published the new toy standard ASTM F963-17, which perfected the requirements of projectile toys of section 4.21.2.3 and modifying the redaction slightly.

The previous version ASTM F963-16 was published in Oct. 2016, few months later, in March 2017, the CPSC accepted the request made by Toy Industry Association (TIA) about the revision regarding the omitting of exemptions for projectile toys of ASTM F963-16 and then took action by adding the omitted phrases to relevant section, details as below:

※ Section 4.21.2.3 Projectiles that have a kinetic energy greater than 0.08 J when test in accordance with 8.14.5 shall not have a kinetic energy per unit area of contact , also known as Kinetic Energy Density (KED) greater than 2500 J/㎡ when tested according to 8.14.6.

※ So that, test would not be applied to projectiles with kinetic energy less than or equal to 0.08J.

BACL Testing:

As ruled by the CPSIA, the new version would then become a mandatory consumer product safety standard 180 days after ASTM notifies the CPSC of the revision and replace the previous version, unless otherwise notified.
