News update│The USA EPA released the Draft 2, Version 3.0 ENERGY STAR Computer Server specification!

On July 31, 2017, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the Draft 2, Version 3.0 ENERGY STAR Computer Server specification. The current US Energy Star Computer Servers standard is version 2.1 which was enforced on April 20, 2016. EPA received numerous comments from European Commission, Energy Efficiency Union, IBM, Lenovo etc, in response to the Draft 1, Version 3.0 specification which was released on August 12, 2016 and has worked to incorporate that feedback within the attached specification. The deadline to provide comments on this Draft 2 specification is August 28, 2017.

The main changes of 3.2(draft) compared to Computer Servers Version 2.1 and 3.1(draft) are as follow:

Change 1:

Computer Servers shipped with Integrated APAs is excluded from scope

 

Change 2:

Raise the efficiency and power factor requirements for the Power Supply of Computer Servers

Proposed the Active State Efficiency Requirements:

Change 4:

Removed the idle state efficiency requirements for resilient servers, and combined the Base Idle State Power Allowance classification from 5 to 3(see below table),Although EPA has removed the idle state efficiency requirements for resilient servers, EPA is 523 proposing to maintain a reporting requirement for these products.

Change 5:

EPA is proposing to modify this Additional Idle Power Allowance to 0.125 watts / GB for above 4GB of installed memory.

Change 6:

Change the Idle State power consumption of each installed APA in qualified configurations limitation from shall not exceed 46 watts to shall not exceed 30 watts.
