On 10 September 2026, the European Commission published Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/1423 to add a new entry to Part A of Annex I to the EU POPs Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, which restricts chlorpyrifos (CAS No. 2921-88-2) in substances, mixtures and articles placed on the EU market. The amendment shall enter into force and apply on 30 September 2026.

In Part A of Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, the following entry is added:

Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate insecticide, acaricide, and miticide used primarily to control foliage and soil-borne insect pests. Chlorpyrifos is highly toxic, and there is strong evidence in humans that prenatal exposure causes adverse effects on neurodevelopment.
